Fun political memoir. Like most political memoirs, it doesnt' get too deep but is interesting to read to learn more about the inner workings of campaigning and being a legislator.
My favorite parts were when he talked about his attitudes and views changed after being in the Senate - the idea that most legislators really want what is best for their constituents, even if they have really screwed up ideas (according to him) on what is best; the fact that lobbyists can provide important and detailed ...more

Don't get me wrong -- there are some delightful, hopeful, thought-provoking, heart-warming passages in this book. The opening chapters on Franken's comedy-writing career, the exploration of what drew him to politics, the entire chapter devoted to the many ways in which Ted Cruz is an insufferable asshole -- all beautifully done. So in bits a pieces this book was an at times purely entertaining read and at others a moving inspiration to not give up hope in what feels like our society's fast slide
