This novel was written by a Ukrainian born author of Jewish descent, who had lived most of her adult life in France. She was arrested in 1942, and died at Auschwitz. It was published, in its unfinished form, years after her death , complete with appendices of the author's notes, and other correspondence, giving insight as to the timeline of the written work, and what followed. It was honest, bitter, bold, brave and sad, all mingled together and ended as a lump at my throat when I finished reading it. That's why it deserved my 5stars rating. Until now, I hardly imagined such a talented writer like her, wasted by a cruel war and perished in Auschwitz-just like that!
