After having seen the BBC miniseries and the Kiera Knightly movie version (which wasn't very good at all) I decided that I really wanted to read the actual book to get more of the character's thoughts. Some of the wording made the book seem a little slow but overall I am glad to have finally read this classic. If you're not familiar with the time period I suggest you read the book with the footnotes that explain the customs of the day.

After months of sweet torture and the long hiatus before finishing, I am happy to say I still enjoyed reading the book. I just struggle to give the last star rating as I also struggled to comprehend some of the scenes and which character is talking which line as I went through the book. I guess it kind of took me long to get used to Austen's writing style as I have been reading contemporary books since forever. Other than that, I can see the reason why this is called a "Classic". I enjoyed finally reading Pride and Prejudice. I don't know what took me so long! What a lovely story about the blooming romance between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Plus all of the other romances found in the books as well. Even though Lady Catherine thought so much of herself and her status in life, I found her to be rather amusing!

The story of love. And prejudice.

This was not the book for me.
There were some things that I did enjoy about the book: Austen's eloquent writing, the quick witted dialog, and the sarcasm and exaggeration. But overall the book simply did not keep my interest. I am sure there are many subtleties that I overlooked and missed in my reading of it, but it just didn't engage me enough to want to bother.
I know there are many readers who love this book and love Austen. I am just not one of them.

Jane Austen is among my tight circle of favorite authors and this book (and her others) are why. She doesn't just write a story. She wraps you up in the life of the people she is writing about. You feel what they feel and want what they want. When Ellinor thinks that Lucy Steele marries her dear Edward Ferrars you just want to cry your eyes out. You are a part of their world.
