There is a comedy scene from a movie in my native tongue wherein the protagonist tries to unravel a package given to him by the heroine; he opens the package to find another one and goes on successively to find at last a little red rose inside. This book is similar to those packages and the rose in many a way. There is at the center of this tale a crime which is then bound in layer upon layer of intricacies with a set of highly improbable investigators on the case.

This was an okay read -- the amount of hype surrounding it kept me reading since it started out very slow and although it was okay I would have easily been tempted to put this book down and move to something else more engaging. The last quarter/third of the book was much more interesting as the mystery unfolded, but overall I did not find this to be as compelling as the reviews indicated. However, I plan to read the next book, so I guess it was engaging enough to pass that bar!

An absolutely fabulous read!!!!!!! I lived in Sweden for 5 years so it also felt familiar and I got so many of the 'Swedish' things that the non-Swedish reader might not. It's one of those books I will read over and over again. It is part of a trilogy and sadly the author passed away. He will be sorely missed!!!!

This book had the potential to be really, really good, were it not for two glaring issues. Firstly, I think it needed a really heavy editorial hand to cut down on the MOUNTAINS of unncessary detail (which detracted SO much from the story, and which, if removed, could have literally cut out 100-odd pages of this tome of a book); and secondly, it could have done without the shameless product placement/plugging of various computers, websites, authors, books etc. Authors always take a while to find

This story was unexpected, but I really enjoyed it. It's not often I read a book in two days straight, but it was too compelling to put it down for sleep. We'll see if it is re-readable, which is my main criteria for five stars.

This was excellent. I liked the structure and the slightly different characters. I suspect it lost something in the translation. I've started the next one of the trilogy now.

I finished this quite awhile ago. It's very difficult to get into, but the main story line is very good.
