I don't really understand all the hype about this book. The story and characters were interesting enough to get through it. I guess this just isn't my type of book - too dark and gruesome for my taste. I read to learn something, or be moved or touched in some way, or simply to be entertained. This didn't do any of those things for me.

The problem with reading rave reviews is they often raise your hopes a bit too high. That was the case for me with this book. I enjoyed the mystery and most of the characters, but you can tell the book was written by a man. Mikael's best female friend sleeps with him whenever the fancy strikes them and her husband doesn't care? Had to be dreamed up by a man! I did enjoy this book, but no more than most other books from a similar genre.

This book was suprisingly different than what I was expecting. It first started out talking about financial reporting but the author made it so easy to understand. At first I was wondering how these separate sects of story were going to overlap but they came together unexpectedly and made the story great. I must say the statistics the author gives on the violence against women makes you wonder what is going on in Sweden.
