Fantastically creative and compelling narrative. Echoes of Vonnegut, DeLillo, and many other American writers but it felt like he'd found a voice of his own to tell a story that is both very specifically about North Korea but manages to touch on universal themes and turn a mirror on the United States. A friend who's never steered me wrong when it came to book recommendations suggested this novel to me - the first time that she's dropped the ball! Granted, she did mention it to me when she herself had only read a portion of it and had overcome her initial misgivings; if she made it all the way through, as I did, then she likely may be as disappointed, even more.
