I enjoyed reading this, but I found Pella's character weak. She went straight from a bad marriage of many years which she rushed into, to a relationship with Mike Schwartz. However, the narrative didn't touch on this, allowing Pella to discover herself in another relationship instead of breaking free as she intended. Nothing is said of this, and the relationship lives on.

I have some capital F Feelings about 'The Art of Fielding.' It is an extremely impressive work and one of the most vivid examples of universe-building I've ever encountered. Harbach paints his setting in lush literary watercolors -- it makes you wish you could be there to experience Westish College, to read all the fictional works that populate the world, to interact with this version of reality. This is a part I loved.
