What Members Thought

When I tell people that this is, beyond any doubt, my favorite book I usually get the same response. They'll look at me with incredulity. Some tell me it's boring. Another criticism is that it's chauvinistic, which is true of much of Hemingway's work. I won't argue against that one, but I also don't care.

The old man and the sea
The sea has taught the old man well. The great swordfish is his friend, a friend he must kill. In the end, is it all futile, when all that left is a skeleton stripped to the bones by sharks. It seems that what's worth glorifying is not the end but the process that brought us to end, whatever the end may be.
