I read this in fits and starts. I found Mau a very intriguing and gripping character. I found several of the ideas interesting. I especially like Pratchett's parting line: "Thinking This book contains some. Whether you try it at home is up to you." ...more

One of my absolute favorite reads of the year. Pratchett, known to most as the author of the Discworld series, has ventured out of that world and entered a new one full of ethical questions, humor and satire. Set in a world similar to our own, Mau is a boy set to become a man. When he returns to his island after a sort of "camp," he discovers that the entire popular has been killed by a tsunami.
