The last time that I read this book, I was in high school. This was one of the books that I read in school that I absolutely loved. I was excited when Unputdownables named it as their January Read-along book. It is so hard to get back to reading a book that you've already read. My TBR is massive that I almost feel a little guilty going back and reading some of my old favorites. The read-along gave me a perfect opportunity to read this old favorite!

This a great book and i am so happy I decided to read it even after having seen the movie a couple weeks ago. It was merely by accident that I found it on a shelf were i was vacationing and read it in a few days. it is a short and relatively to the point but a multi layered story with lots of meaning. Gatsby is truly a marvel, and don't we all we see ourselves that way at least once in our life; invincible, able to accomplish and do anything. This book pleasantly surprised me. After my first attempt to read this monstrous tome (this copy was 189 pages of gigantic print), I would have definitely given it a one. Since I never finished it and since it's supposedly the best book ever written, I had to try again.
I didn't love it. But I did like it this time. The story of the collapse of an American dream (coming this soon after reading American Pastoral) seemed well done and foundational. The characters are well drawn, the setting is gorg ...more
