You know it's going to be good because it's Alice Walker and it's The Color Purple and it's supposed to be good but then you actually read it for the very first time and it's just plain wonderful.

What a beautiful book about love, understanding, redemption, and overcoming hardships. I particularly loved the juxtaposition of the Celie's life as a black woman in the southern US and her sister's life as a black missionary in Africa, and the comparisons and contrasts drawn from their experiences.
