This is a haunting story set several years after some kind of apocalyptic event killed off pretty much everything on earth. There are only a handful of people left, most of whom are so vicious that death would be preferable to encountering them. The main characters are a father and his son, traveling on a road that they hope will bring them to something better. It took me about 60 pages to get past the ViewMaster style of writing, but then I really began to enjoy that approach for the post-apocalyptic tale. Not to spoil anything, but I was a little disappointed with the ending, seemed too tidy.
Great book due to the bleak and dreary circumstances.
Bah. Awkwardly crying at work after finishing this during lunch.
straight bawled through the last 35 pages and for another 20 minutes after i finished. better than the matrix.

I was dubious, but this is so gripping and spare and bleak. Fast read, stays with you.
A must read! Very telling about who we are and were we are headed.
