Every once in a while we want to recommend a book that has personal meaning for us and has changed our lives for the better, in hopes that you too will emerge with a new outlook on life. This is why we’ve chosen one of the greatest and most important literary works of all time for today’s PWPLS Goodreads review. Yes, today we’d like to introduce you to The Princess Bride: S. Morgenstern’s Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure— The “Good Parts” version, abridged by William Goldman.

For those who have seen the movie, you know The Princess Bride has something for everyone– romance, adventure, humor, action, sword fights, pirates, giants, princesses, good men, cowardly men, six-fingered men, beautifulest ladies, true love, giant rodents, poison, witches, truths, passion, miracles, and even some kissing. You will like it. No, you MUST like it. (Proof: A buddy once told me about a friend of a friend who dumped someone because they didn't like The Princess Bride, and we both agreed it was a perfectly acceptable reason for ending a relationship. Yes, it’s that good.) If, however, you haven’t seen the movie, you need to come check it out from PWPLS right now. RIGHT NOW! Finally, for those of you who have never read the book, you will laugh, you will cry, you will gasp, you will swoon, you will quote it endlessly, and you will want to reread it every year for the rest of your life.

Much like the movie, greatly enjoyable and funny throughout. Uniquely written despite the obvious outcome. Buttercup's Baby, the introduction and the section between Buttercup's Baby and the main novel are a bit tedious or trying. Otherwise, worth the read. ...more
