I own the 2006 edition of “1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die.” Peter Boxall is the general editor and the preface was written by Peter Ackroyd. This book has compiled 1001 recommended books, primarily novels which were selected by over 100 contributors (literary critics, professors of literature, etc.). For each recommended book there is information on the author and a short blurb about the book.

Like most people I was first introduced to this book in high school. I cannot remember if this was required reading; actually I believe I read an article about books that were banned in some schools due to their language and I ended up reading this on my own. I pushed myself through it when I was in my teens, but now I can't. I read another review that saw the same point of view as my own...Atticus is portrayed as the "white savior". And I know, people have the opinion that I should keep in mind
