What a beautiful experience it is to come late to a "classic" work of art and find that it lives up to its reputation. I don't know how I missed being assigned this book in jr. high like most Americans, but somehow I did. In college and graduate school I mostly studed British and World Literatures. And so this past week, on a snowy day when the library at which I work was closed due to the weather, I stayed in bed all day and finally read Harper Lee's enduring coming of age novel.

I Kind of can't believe I hadn't read this book sooner... I managed to get through 13 years of public education without picking up this book. Loved it, but doesn't everyone?
