What Members Thought

I liked this book and thought it was different, but the main character bothered me. There's a difference between someone who sees herself as better than the people she's surrounded with and learns from it, and someone who sees herself as better and continues to feel that way. I didn't think any character besides the main one was developed or had much depth at all, though she herself hints at the possibility of depth within each of them.

While the characters were as vividly alive and endearing as any of Kingsolver's, parts of Flight Behavior read like a lecture. Lots of action was lost on long talks between Dellarobia and the scientists or Dellarobia and Dovey really pounding home the point of climate change. This could have been done in a more subtle way, a way that the reader might feel they have discerned this themselves instead of being spoon-fed it.
