The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, is the first book in the trilogy of "dystopian society" books. The story is about a country called Panem with 12 districts, all ruled over by the Capitol. Every year each district is required to send one boy and one girl to the Hunger Games to fight to their deaths until one victor remains. This is the Capitol's way of showing their power and reminding the districts that rebellion would be a bad idea.

The Hunger Games is a solid three star book. The overall plot is enjoyable. The world certainly is an interesting one. The characters and dialogue are hackneyed, simplistic and predictable. I have no idea how the author makes a transition to a sequel because there is no reason to read it. I'm struggling to remember how the movies bridge the divide, but this book does not make me want to pick up the next one.
