Kearns Goodwin does a masterful job with this labor of love (it comes through), celebrating America’s towering martyr and capturing the astonishing catastrophe of the US Civil War. An amazing portrait of Lincoln and his cabinet members, this book truly shows off Lincoln's "political genius," as the subtitle promises. This is non-fiction, but kept me thoroughly engaged and never dragged. It is long, but well worth your time. This would be a perfect choice for your holiday reading, or really for anytime reading, if you enjoy history.
