For the first few chapters of Cinder I was trying to figure out where the story was going. However, by the end of Part 1 I had guessed the "big reveal" that comes later in the book. However, I was not prepared for the GIGANTIC cliff hanger ending that left me staring at the book and saying "NOOOO!!! You can't end it like that!!!!!!!!!!". I hope Levana's story and how the Lunars came to be will be fleshed out more, but I thought Cinder was a fresh and modern take on the Cinderella story. Cyborg prejudice, androids with personality and a scourge that ends up benefiting the people who have been inadvertently infecting others make for an interesting dystopia, as well.

So I tried. I mean I really tried to get into this book, but I just couldn't get past the first hundred pages. For whatever reason, I just couldn't make that connection with any of the characters in the story. Generally I'm a pretty big science fiction fan, but maybe not the biggest sci-fi reader. This sounded like it would be really cool, but just couldn't get into the story or the world Meyer created.

Cinder was much more original than I expected (after all, I'm an avowed hater of retellings), and the audiobook was fantastic. I'm glad I waited until the series was finished to read this, as I can't stand cliffhangers that last more than a few months.
