Meg - A Bookish Affair

I couldn't put this book down. It was a good mix of good characters and intrigue. The book tells the story of deep family secrets and what it takes to expose them. This book is a pretty fast read even at over 400 pages. It's perfect summer reading!

One of the outstanding features of the book is the character of Lisbeth Salander. She is a really cool character. She's very strong and very smart and definitely resourceful.

I look forward to reading the rest of the series!

When I first began reading this book, I couldn't understand why everyone was so in love with it. The first 200 pages are incredibly boring and tedious to get through. It took way too long for the action to begin. However, once it picked up, the book became an exciting read. I very much enjoyed the last few hundred pages. ...more

I really don't get what the fuss is about. It gets more readable about 2/3 of the way in, if I remember correctly: it stops being a chore and starts being mildly entertaining. I can think of a lot of trashy mystery novels I have read with a lot more gusto.

I wonder if my problem is not being awestruck by Lisbeth. She is interesting---the bits following her investigations are some of the most interesting in the book---but her philosophy and approach to life really don't shock me or shake me up. Pe

This was a very quick and enjoyable read. The major plot lines were annoyingly disconnected, but I think the main plot line and the characters were interesting enough to buoy the book. I am looking forward to checking out the movies and moving on to the next book.

I read this after seeing the movie (American version) because I felt confused about some things in the plot. I actually liked the movie better because it was more interesting to look at Daniel Craig and the actress who played Lisbeth than to read about them and all of the goings on of the magazine. Overall, I thought the story was really campy and a strange mixture of hyper realistic pages droning on about the magazine and really unrealistic pages about the basement sex/torture chamber. I guess ...more

Normally, if a book doesn't grab me within the first 100 pages, I stop reading. There are just too many books to waste time reading one that doesn't addict me quickly. This book was the exception and was absolutely worth it. It took me weeks to get through the first 250 pages because they just didn't make me want to keep reading. After that however, I couldn't put it down! ...more
