What a punch to the gut. Passionate, candid and powerful, I was sucked in from the beginning by Coates' beautiful prose.
I could see teens really enjoying this book, and learning a lot from what Coates has to say. It'd be good to pair it with a YA novel that tackles similar subjects for a robust discussion. ...more

The best synopsis I can come up with: it's one person's story about their understanding of and relationship with their black body.
This one has had long library waiting lists since it came out, which was a convenient excuse for me to wait to read it. People kept saying it was a "must read."
