Another strong novel from Hosseini. It suffers from one interwoven story too many - Markos was really so minimal to the driving plot his chapter could be skipped entirely - but worth picking up. I would have saved it for a winter read though.

The writing is of course beautiful and I thought that the POV-changing conceit was ambitious and meaningful--I think I understood some of what he was trying to say and why he chose the form he did. However, some of the POV segments grabbed me much more than others--I thought there was some inconsistency. It read much more like short stories than a novel and didn't quite tie together for me.

This was good! I've liked all of his books so far. Recommendation: don't take a two-week break in the middle of reading this. You will probably get confused. I did. (I figured it out though.) ...more
