I don't 'get' short stories, but Saunders is inarguably a great writer. I would have preferred if the book was 3 or 4 stories extended a bit, rather than however many it ended up being. I don't know what the book was 'about' and I don't appreciate the way that short story collections ask you to search for such things. Dude's a master of form. You read these stories with the utmost confidence in Saunders' ability to deliver. It's like watching a top magician perform. You appreciate the act on multiple levels: first for the spectacle, then for the craftsmanship. Top marks to "Home," "The Semplica Girl Diaries," "Escape From Spiderhead," and "Tenth of December."

Look, this is obviously very well done. Some of these stories were really funny and most were pretty sad, but it's not really my thing and I don't think anything from it will stick with me.
