Shelves: did-not-finish

This book was such a bore. And honestly, I didn’t finish it but I didn’t know which shelf to put it on. I will decide later on. I guess this might be a pretty unfair review because I didn’t finish it, but oh well.

The protagonist, Ellie… wait, does she have a last name? I can’t seem to remember it being mentioned anywhere. And I can’t believe Ellie’s name is seriously Ellie. Like, not a short-form or nickname of anything. So, Ellie is actually a reaper-slayer, who’s pretty much invincinble becaus This book was such a bore. The protagonist, Ellie… wait, does she have a last name? I can’t seem to remember it being mentioned anywhere. And I can’t believe Ellie’s name is seriously Ellie. Like, not a short-form or nickname of anything. So, Ellie is actually a reaper-slayer, who’s pretty much invincinble because you can’t kill her. You kill her, she dies, then reincarnates. Okay, sure.

And then there’s the love-interest, as always. Will. Blah blah, handsome and strong boy, and this time, he is sworn to protect her. Wow, man, wow. It’s so damn cheesy. And I don’t get how Ellie is the stronger one, the ‘Preliator’ when she pretty much needs her ass saved by Will. (Pg 152: “You have to fight him, Ellie,” Will said. I was breathless with fright. “I don’t- I can’t-”)

And Ellie whines SO MUCH. She’s such a childish wimp. (Not really a Preliator character trait, if you asked me.) And she’s always asking so many questions, which Will replies to with a whole load of boring things I found hard to read through. Her attitude and behaviour really resembles a elementary grade kid, bawling away just because her father reprimanded her. Seriously?

Oh, and there’s the writing. This actually compares to a book of short fantasy stories written by sixth graders I bought when I was in fourth grade. And the fighting scenes? Save me from it. It was all so anticipated, whenever the reaper would come out. Boring, really.

The reapers? “I am Ragnuk, and I am going to eat you now.” When I read this, I was totally dumbfounded. Is that how you introduce a monster to me? Especially one who killed Ellie before? Even I can write better than that! I’d have expected and liked more suspense and action raveling around Ragnuk before he actually confronts Ellie.

But maybe, just maybe I will give this book a second try when I’ve plenty of time. Until then, no. ...more

Angelfire was a book that gave me an optimistic look unto myself. I loved the book, it was just amazing. Each page that I had read was like a dream come true. You just wanted Will to tell how he really felt about her, and it was so wonderfully placed. Will was just so brooding and so amazing. It was a magnificent book, bravo!

There were a ton of really intense fight scenes! I liked her mythology take on Angels. I felt like it was really different than the other Angel books out there. I really liked Will. Sigh. Also what's up with the Cadan? What is his history with Will? Do I see a possible love triangle? ...more

Shelves: wanted-to-like-but-was-dissapointed

From all the hype about this book I had to say I was looking forward to it; but it was a big let down. The writing style was like Hush Hush and the main heroine was unlikeable.
