Enter Jason, a boy with no memory of who he is or why he is on a bus with two kids who both seem to think that he should know them (apparently one of them is his girlfriend and you would think he would remember that). The two kids would be Leo and Piper, clearly demigods and while I figured out who their parents were, it is not unbelievably blatant or anything. Things get moving at a fairly quick pace and we are not left wondering wh 3.5 stars (Final grade largely dependent on the series outcome)

Things get moving at a fairly quick pace and we are not left wondering what is going on too long before Annabeth shows up looking for Percy. And then things get interesting. There are mysteries and prophecies and plenty of crashes and more zany gods, goddesses and demigods, as well as NO Percy, which was a disappointment, but the next book promises to have him, so it is all good and likely for the best that this time around we got to focus on meeting our new characters and seeing them together and what they are capable of and where they need to go and what they will need to accomplish on their personal and collective journeys. I liked Piper (though I did not want her to be Aphrodite's daughter) and Leo is a delight, though less doubt and angst would be cool. All in all, I felt it was a more even and balanced story plot-wise and in terms of character development than The Red Pyramid this Spring, with some of the humor back, so I hope that was just a one-time occurrence from rushing and what-not. I just really want Percy and Jason to get along. Please.

All of this time the demigods have been taking sides between Rome and Greece and have been separated from each other, with apparently no knowledge of the other camp's continued existence since the time of the American Civil War. Now they must be reunited in order to fulfill the Great Prophecy since the seven greatest demigods that are needed for said prophecy currently reside in both camps; "It will be the most dangerous quest, the most important voyage ever attempted by the children of the gods." And with that we are left to look forward to the next installment in this trilogy.

So, we have Percy to look forward to in The Son of Neptune ,Fall 2011, along with Jason's former campmates Dakota, Gwendolyn, Hazel, Bobby, Reyna (possible former girlfriend?). Here's to hoping they are great characters and not at all likely to make for angst and pouting. Though, thankfully, Riordan has never really put us through too much of that.

Found a few typos.In the index, under Aphrodite. it says "marred to Hephaestus" - should read "married". And Piper's dress, in the same block of time, changes from teal and black, to blue. ...more

Ah, what to say about this book? I liked it, and it held my attention. It wasn't the same as the Percy Jackson series, which is a good thing. But it just wasn't the same as the Percy Jackson series.
For one thing, this book, which is about the size of the first two Percy books combined, is told by three characters. Jason, who I guess is the main one, has a major case of amnesia. Piper, who's father she never sees is missing. Leo, who blames himself for his mother's death, and is awesome with tool ...more

I've yet to read The Red Pyramid, but I knew I didn't want to miss out on another Olympians book, and I was right. The Lost Hero introduces a new set of heroes - Piper, Leo and Jason - with the famous Percy missing and unaccounted for. From the get-go there's page-turning non-stop action, and now that I've made it to the end, I'm dying to know what happens next. ...more

i cant wait for this book!!! only one more week!!! i have a new theory for why Jason lost his memory. what if Medusa turned him to statue and some god turned him back into a demigod for some reason. what do you guys think of this theory?
