In fifth grade, every day after lunch our teacher would read a book to us. And this was how I first experienced the Hobbit - as a book read aloud to a room full of fifth and sixth graders of various reading interests and ability who were suddenly quiet and interested. And so I asked for the whole set for Christmas, and Santa so provided.

I absolutely loved the hobbit. When I was reading the introduction I found that the book series in general was intended for children; or rather for the tween generation. It was a wonderful story that unlike the movies had a decent plot, strong characters and the somewhat crazy wizard who provides the "library archives" for the other character. Gandalf does pose some resemblence to Dumbledore, however not so much that they are exactly alike.
