This book was awesome, I'm always a fan of books where the main character has superpowers and this one did not disappoint. I truly can't think of much to say because I enjoyed this book so much. Ciere's short-sightedness was a little annoying at times but other than that, this was a fun, up-all-night read. I can't wait for the next installment!

I definitely felt like I was reading a side-reality version of X-Men at some points. Obviously, the idea of some kind of mutations and the government getting involved is parallel, but when I was able to sit there and point to characters listing off the X-men equivalent fairly easily, it sort of annoyed me.

Set in the US after a virus has plagued the country and the vaccine that cured it caused more trouble then expected. That trouble is known as an immunity, or a superhero like powers that a small populous developed when they were vaccinated. We follow the story in two points of view, firstly Ciere Giba who is an illusionist. she is able to transform her self and some of what is around her at her will. Eh. I think my biggest problem with this book was the writing style. It was written in present-tense, which I don't like but can normally stomach with first person. This was written in third. I got a headache from constantly correcting the tense in my head.
But there were a few small problems too: weird superpowers that weren't (a perfect memory isn't a superpower), too much profanity, and a protagonist who was just ever so slightly annoying. Plus, sort of an 'attraction triangle.' I did like De ...more
