I really enjoyed it! I'm glad that I'm finally picking this series up after so many years of hype and people nagging me to. I watched the movie first, and definitely enjoyed the book a lot more. I know a lot of people say that it is hard to get into this series at first because of all the different vocabulary and the world that Richelle Mead is creating, but the movie probably helped give me an overview of everything. I enjoyed this series overall, although I felt that it really picks up after this first entry, which is a little slow in spots. This book does a good job of developing the core characters and the world building is solid and believable, making this a strong launch for a vampire series with enough "steam" to be interesting, but still tame enough to be solidly in the YA camp.

I like how it had a nice tidy ending. I'm glad it was mostly happy, too.
I love the different characters so much and how she tied in depression and all of the love between Lissa and Rose. Ahhh. Can't wait to read the next one. ...more

At first I was very skeptical to read this book. I've heard multiple good and bad things about it. Finally, I picked it up and gave it a chance. For the first 100 pages or so, I was so bored I could barely keep my eyes open. But, then hot damn! I loved this book! There were multiple twists and turns.
