I had wanted to read this book for a long time, because I had always loved the movie as a child growing up. I am happy to report that though they did change a few things, the book and the movie run parallel. There is some pretty brutal things that happen in this story, things that are hard to read about in my opinion, the lives of the characters were dismal at times, but in the end, everybody found their way around those times. I can honestly say I love this book.
