My 2nd Dickens' book finished.
Reading Oliver Twist was an interesting experience - if you'd asked me I'd have said I knew the story. I knew Oliver, Fagin, The Artful Dodger, Bill Sikes, Nancy etc but to be honest I didn't really remember the full story.
Reading the book for the first time was a pleasant surprise. There's so much more to it than I thought.

I initially had some difficulty getting into Oliver Twist. I'm not entirely sure why, although I suspect it probably has more to do with recent chaos at work than Dickens' writing. It is a very sad book - pretty much everything bad that could happen to young Oliver does, repeatedly. The poor kid can't catch a break. I was drawn in more once Mr. Brownlow entered the picture and the possibility that - just perhaps - something good might hap ...more
