I liked The Secret History a little better than The Goldfinch, but that honestly isn't saying much. If I hadn't been listening to the audiobook I likely wouldn't have finished it, although I don't feel the author helped the situation by reading it herself.

A pompous and self absorbed small group of students commit murder without seeming regret. The characters are not likable. They could have edited out 33% of the book.
I'm still wondering why this book is viewed so highly by my friends. I need to recall who all recommended this to me and have a good chat with them about it.
The book is a little over 500 pages long. Around page 150 +/- it actually got interesting, stopped for a bit and then flowed well for a couple hundred pages. Overall, I can't say I enjoyed it but it was written well.
