The exploration of death and aging and Fermina's feelings at the onset of widowhood were done well and were something not normally found in literature. However, Florentino's relationship with America Vicuna reminded me of Humbert Humbert in Lolita. He had 622 affairs but that one bothered me a lot.

A bit long but altogether an interesting read. I wasn't to fond of Florentino Ariza. He strikes me as a bit of a Romeo and if there is one charachter in all of liturature I despise the most it would be Romeo. Florentino Ariza, however, continues on dispite Fermina Daza's rejection. Fermina Daza I loved. She is so believable. She's a strong, hardheaded woman and bit irritating at times but likeable. A good book with a nice ending but I'm not sure I'll be reading it again anytime soon.
