Far from the madding crowd is a must-read, at least once in a lifetime. If you manage to overcome the first 50 pages, you'll grow to love Hardy's talent for creating unforgettable characters - steady, loyal, patient farmer Oak; loony, madly in love farmer Boldwood; vain, arrogant, deceitful, falsely romantic Troy; and above all of them, Bathsheba Everdene shines as one of the unhappiest, unluckiest heroines.
