This is the 8th book in my #ayearofdickens2021 challenge.

I felt like this was the first of the “great” Dickens novels - the ones people love and rave about - and therefore I had high expectations going in, perhaps too high? For folk who laud David Copperfield as their favourite book, or favourite Dickens, I’d be interested in how many other Dickens novels they’d read on average.

I am going to start my review of the book by mentioning how beautifully written this book is. The dialogues and characters were very well written. The entire story from the time he was born, his relationships, friendships, connections are all very well documented and given the vast period I think he did do a good job. Finished! Mammoth task, 28 audio discs but a very well told and gripping story. Lots of minor characters you recognise from future incarnations, a slimy villain in Uriah Heep and the fascinating evolution of David and his love life from innocent boy with crushes to adult man with responsibilities and real love. Great Dickens.
