On an academic level I completely understand why this book is considered a classic. You could read this book 100 times over and get something different out of it with every read. Within this story topics of love, politics, war, societal classes and their value, art, religion, the institution of marriage, divorce, depression, expectations versus reality, as well as societal expectations for women during this time.
