(Small spoilers if you read on!) I have now read this book a number of times as I read it a few years ago and I then studied it for my A level English. The striking thing about this book is the way the characters and their lives are 'used' by Fitzgerald to make negative, and at the time unconventional, comments on the greedy, commercialism of post war America. I was highly disappointed with this book. It was dull, unexciting and if I'm honest, boring in places. I couldn't relate to any of the characters and I found the love stories passionless. The only thing I liked about it was that it wasn't a very long book.
