This book is the hardest to rate of any I have ever read. Let me preface this by stating that I live in the South, have lived here for all but 3-4 years of my life, and will likely live in the South the rest of my life unless something very unexpected happens.

GwtW has some of the best characterization I've ever read. The characters are consistent and believable, even across a thousand pages. The dialogue is natural, the scenes are set with vibrant colors and a careful eye to detail. I understan ...more

STORY

I’m finding it very difficult to articulate my thoughts on this book. In brief - I loved it! I was swept up in Scarlett’s character and wanted to find out what happened to her and how she fared throughout. It was interesting to see how characters who had been raised in the same societal and social circles could turn out so differently. I have seen the movie too many times to count, but had never read the book. As was to be expected, the book had so much more detail than 5he movie. Especially about the history of life in Atlanta after the Civil War. And now I need to watch the movie again, because I think the book had other things that never made the movie.
