willy nilly,Holden was an antihero. Maybe Salinger's answer to the growing submissive, rat race life cycle, yes man culture around his time. A teenager's rebellious voice is perfect for this.

Although this book is incredibly well written, although a little too American (I didn't have a clue what the Holden was talking about at times), I just didn't really like it. I couldn't relate the character at all. He irritated me to the point I wanted to magically go into the book and tell him what a waste of space I thought he was. I didn't think he was funny and yes, I get that he is exactly the thing he hates about everyone else. I'm glad I've read it but I couldn't bare to pick this book up
