I'm afraid this was a critically acclaimed book I just couldn't like. The politics was very interesting and believable and frankly rather genius. The idea of Big Brother being able to control things the way he could, in a way dictators would if they could, was realistic and it did really make me think. However, the characterisation and the way the story was told couldn't grab my attention. For me, characters are the main reason I enjoy books, perhaps because I am interested in psychology.
