I love, love, love this type of book - the one that weaves in several different separate stories together, bound by one theme. In this case - the novel is built around the famous tight-rope walk of Philippe Petit between the World Trade Center Towers while they were finishing construction in 1974. Given all the cultural significance that the WTC has for us post-9/11, a view into this part of their history is refreshing, if not all the more bittersweet. I liked this. I liked the interwoven stories; it seemed very carefully done. I saw a documentary about the man who walked the wire between the towers, and the sections about him were the most vivid. I also liked the storyline about the mother/daughter streetwalkers; they were very much alive as well.
