Talk about amazing diversity all coming together under the unifying umbrella of parenting! Wow. I do think Solomon is a bit superfluous and either it took me the first few chapters to adjust to his writing style or it improved several hundred pages in. I'm not sure which. This thick honker of a book landed at my home and I thought, not gonna get thru that one! I was spell bound. Andrew takes you into the homes and lives of parents raising children that are deaf, have severe physical disabilities, struggling with autism, children of rape and other examples of where your child is "far from the tree". I couldn't get enough. And the gift of the several hundred pages to me is greater compassion, an open heart, understanding, knowledge. Thank you Andrew Solomon.
