I had read this book years ago, probably over a decade now, and thought very little of it. I thought that Meacham was painting Jackson in an undue favorable light. Jackson is a monster, sure, but that he had not presented that in a way that I felt was warranted. Reading this with more mature, educated, and fresher eyes I feel very different. Made his mark on the presidency and on the connection of the president to the American people. Screwed over the Indians and blacks.
