This memoir follows Ta-Nehisi through his early life through his teen years mostly focused on his reflection of life under the relentless watch and disciplined guidance of his ex-Panther father. Initially I had somewhat of a hard time getting into the rhythm and flow of Coates' writing. The context, geography and references were very intimate, localized and unfamiliar to me. References to streets, neighborhoods, colloquialisms made it challenging to easily track.
