What Members Thought

We realize Evelyn Waugh is held in high regard (and we certainly admired his renowned "Brideshead Revisited," his compelling look at the lives of upper-class British Catholics before WWII). Yet, for us, "Scoop" brought a few smiles but was hardly the exercise in hilarity that Waugh's fans claim. The plot is compelling. I picked this book from my wish list on Ohio e-book library because I needed something to listen to on my road trip home from NYC. It was the first audiobook that was available.
It is a satire by Evelyn Waugh concerning journalism. What a hoot. And the narrator did a marvelous job of "acting" the various parts. Based on Waugh's time being a war correspondent. Still appropriate today. ...more
