Wasn't sure what it would be about, but after reading and enjoying The Beautiful and Damned, I knew I'd have to get to this one sooner rather than later. I found Gatsby enigmatic, and I'm still not sure I know his story. I didn't expect the crises of marital relationships failing, jealousy, murder, and even a bit of mistaken identity. While it was much parsed down compared to TB&D, which was probably Fitzgerald refining his craft, I can't help but wish there was more of it.

Maybe I shouldn't have skimmed this book when I was in college and it was required reading in my American Literature class. I just reread it and found that I should have bypassed a few social events and read this book carefully the first time.
