This is my second time reading this book; I read it I think in high school and it barely made an impression. Now with a lot of time and experience behind me, I much more enjoyed the book and got quite a bit out of it. I've been reading a lot of books centered in the 1920s-30s and this was a fantastic look at that era, capturing the American dream in a time where it descended into decadence.

I enjoyed this book when I first read it, but I didn't fall in love with it until I taught it. Although it's set in the 1920s, it contains themes that transcend all time periods. Everytime I reread it I notice some new subtlety that had escaped me before. Fitzgerald is a master of language and getting to the heart of human nature. This is one of those books that I think everyone should read at least once.

This is Ben's favorite book. I just don't understand the significance. Maybe I need to read it again.
