Compelling story ruined by the author's inability to write. The Farsi especially grated on my nerves, since native Farsi speaking characters would be talking to each other, then one of them would throw out a Farsi word, stop mid-sentence, and translate it to English before moving on with the conversation. I had been dying to add this to my repertoire, and I'm so glad I did. First off, I really don't care if it sounds lazy or unintellectal, but the best foray into learning about an area or current world events is through fiction. Attaching faces such as Amir, Hassan, and Baba to a tumultous country such as Afghanistan is so much more satisfying than reading a non-fiction book on the area's twentieth century history.
