I really had no expectations when I was given this as a reading assignment. That being said I was floored by the emotional wall of pain being brought down in this story. It's powerful and engaging and I think Dr. Hosseini does an excellent job at convying to the reader the struggle of the main character who's only crime is not standing up for himself or Hassan when it was most needed for him.

I had been dying to add this to my repertoire, and I'm so glad I did. First off, I really don't care if it sounds lazy or unintellectal, but the best foray into learning about an area or current world events is through fiction. Attaching faces such as Amir, Hassan, and Baba to a tumultous country such as Afghanistan is so much more satisfying than reading a non-fiction book on the area's twentieth century history. A good story...it did get me at the end. But the story was too "coincidental" and lacked realism...just wish it was more believable.
