Ricks is awesome. His reporting for the WSJ and WaPo has been fantastic, and his in-depth accounting of the mistakes in Iraq is a must-read. Cobra II offers a better description of military tactics and fighting, and Assassin's Gate is the best written personal account of the problems, but Ricks's book is the most expansive.
