There is no getting around a very simple fact: Ayn Rand was an asshole. A nasty, bitter, immature asshole. At the same time, she was incredibly intelligent, a self-made woman when it wasn't so easy to be a woman, and well-intentioned (in her own mind). But, like so many ideologues (on the left and right) and ass-holes, she was naive and saw a future America that just hasn't come to be. No doubt she has her believers. I ran into someone reading Atlas Shrugged, and she told me how amazing the book
